My new most hated phrase is -

can you do me a favor.

what if I said no

Subway Series #2

This morning a young girl gave up her seat for another young girl. At first I didn't understand it but then I thought I saw a small bump on the standing woman so I assumed that she was pregnant. I still don't understand the whole give your seat up for a pregnant woman thing...maybe, if she is like, really really pregnant. Like, I'm worried her water will break on my sandals any moment pregnant, then I would consider it. consider. So here's where it gets funny.
A seat opened up just one stop in on my trek to the j-o-b. I don't hesitate. You see a seat, you go for it. period. I beat out the guy that was standing in the doorway by about a millisecond...ha! victory. i can read my book, apply my make-up, so many more choices when sitting. Then I looked up and noticed that the gentleman that I walked past, who was standing in front of me now had one of those baby bjorn-esque type bags on, but this was more like a duffel. Upon closer inspection I saw that there was no baby in this bag but a dog. His head was popping up throught the mesh netting and he was cute, all big eyes and floppy ears. Immediately, I asked him if he wanted to sit with his dog. He said thanks, but he'd be sitting all day long. I guess with the heat he decided to bring his dog with him to work. So there you have it. I suppose my motto would be men with dogs first, instead of women and children.

Trish

The alarm going off jars Trish out of sleep. While reaching for her cell phone, the blanket falls from its blindfold position and releases the full sun of midday into her bedroom. "Crap!" Before another thought enters her head it begins to pound as she lets her heavy noggin hit the pillow again, the sunlight slowly making its way through the fog of her memory of what happened the previous evening.
After what seems a lifetime (in reality is five minutes) she slowly regains an upright position and surveys the damage from last nights escapades. Mental checklist begins - 1. phone (alarm still beeping) 2. wallet (peeking out of purse) 3. purse (covered with the finding of item 2) 4. keys (can be seem by squinting towards side table by front door of studio)...well, the evening could not have been a total disaster then. Looking down she realizes that she may have taken off her shoes but managed to sleep in her bra and jeans, again yet miraculously must have taken out her contacts. It never ceases to amaze Trish no matter how the room is spinning she still realizes it is doing so in focus before passing out.
She grabs her phone and silences it, taking note of the time. Alright, you can do this. Just one foot in front of the other. Upon standing she knocks over a glass of what must have been water by the side of the bed. Huh, well that must be why I am just bad and not worse. Rounding the "wall" ( i use that term loosely) that divides her bedroom from her living space she notices a pair of feet hanging off her love seat, then the water glass makes sense...Julie.
Cloudy images begin a slideshow in my memory. Closing the bar, serenading each down the street (subsequently getting yelled at), was there food?, then a cab? or the subway? Coffee will help to sort this out, and a nice hot shower.

Style Trend -
I, like most women, love shoes. I love all kinds of shoes. Those who know me know that I will wear my boots until the first scorcher of a day, then happily switch to flip flops. I have, on more than one occasion gone into DSW or some other shoe store and walk out with a new pair of shoes, without really thinking about the height of the heel. If i love it, then I love it. I am about 5'8" already so I have on occasion become a glamazon, not that there is anything wrong with that. Of couse I didn't realize it til I wore them out the first time and towered over every man like a WNBA player.
However, this season, the wedge sandal has become a 5+ incher...explain to me who is wearing that? It was difficult to find any sandal, wedges particularly, where the heel was not obscene. I am amazed that a wedge sandal can turn into something uncomfortable- but there you have it. I know you are all glued to this post thinking, OMG, did she find a pair? Sleep easy fellow shoelovers. I did finally manage to score a bare of BOC wedges (from the BORN family of shoes) that are great and comfortable and only make me 5'11".

It just isn't every day that I long to be 5'2"

my own personal arc

It is more than a little screwed up to me that the 'normal' thing to do at the present j-o-b is to scream and rant at people. it has a waterfall effect. i have watched the slinky effect of yelling to yelling to yelling to yelling. today was one of those days were i was so overtired that it truly did run off my back. i don't understand how it is acceptable business practice to rant and curse and rave like a big baby...and this sort of behavior begins at the very top of the food chain here.
i tried to be immune to it, i really did. but it seems that what i have learned at the current j-o-b is that it is like trying to soak up a flood with a single sheet of brawny. i am constructing a life boat to survive this deluge...

just hope it holds.

All woman are catty...sometimes I revel in the fact that I can judge - specifically I used to get a kick out of a certain female meteorologist's outfit choices - or as I called it - getting dressed in the dark while on psychedelic drugs. However, I also think that woman are far to critical of other woman. I have started doing things a little differently. Don't get me wrong, I still laugh at some outfits on TV. Of course my favorite weather girl had to go and get a new clothing allowance and a stylist. But now, on the subway or on the streets, rather than doing the 'stare you up and down' I try and find something positive to say (or think) rather than go straight to the negative. For instance, your dress may be hideous, but those shoes are supercute.
I also love when you get that feeling that people, predominantly catty bi&#^$, are giving you the stare down cause that is when I love to look them right in the eye like, What? I don't recall asking for your acceptance or opinion of my clothing choice of the day so walk on.
Have you ever worked at a job where you realize that a trained monkey could take over and no one would notice???

just a question.

Miami has some shitty fans....I'm just saying it out loud. Boston drove the series to 7, which I am sure no one thought would happen. They had a lead in game 7 and then, much to our chagrin, Miami came back to take it. When the trophy presentation started and a past hall of famer for Miami, Alonzo Mourning, gave some praise to Boston and their effort, the crowd booed. No class! I will be routing for OKC all the way, mainly because I can't stand LB. I will also say that it was also low class of Rondo and Garnett to leave the arena before the final seconds of the game. I expect that kind of crappy sportsmanship from James but not from them.
Also, Sharapova won the french today. Tomorrow will be Rafa and Novak so set your DVRs...

My Own Subway Series #1-
As I rode the subway home from work today, I noticed a few things. I am not a maternal person, don't get me wrong, i love my nieces, but fortunately my maternal clock has been on the fritz for as long as I can remember. This morning there seemed to be an overwhelming amount of children on the Q train. Now I'll admit some of them are cute, for a bit. However, after about two stops a seat became available and a father scrambled to get his son the seat. Now he was little, but I can't help but think that this kid has had over 8 hours of sleep and his legs are smaller than an adult, so why do children have  to have a seat on the train.
A few months ago after a very long work week I made a bee line for an open seat on the Q. I beat out a mother and her two children. For the record, I didn't make any contact with any of them. You would have thought that I cut the kids the way the mother reacted to me. Started ranting, for maaaany maaaannyy stops about how I was lucky I didn't hit her kid cause then it'd have been on. She was travelling with another woman who proceeded to give me dirty looks and gave a good amen here and there where appropriate. I, being the loud-mouthed Italian I am, am not about to take that s#@! by any means so I responded to her that I hadn't touched her or her children. Probably not my smartest move but the office was hell that week and I was in one of those kiss my a@@ new york kinda moods - you know the kind I am talking about. Well, I poked the bear so now I had to deal with the backlash. I said my peace then put my headphones on and pretended to be playing music - i know my spy technique is so stellar! After her sermon she continued to glare but was silent.
I got ready to get off at my stop, keys in hand ready in case I had to shank anyone. As I was leaving the train she yells, see you later fat bitch! now, let me explain...i am not a size 6, nor will I ever be one, but I am by no means heavy. I have some weight to lose, yes, but overall I would say I am average weight, with one, well two large exceptions. I hadn't really respected this woman, but it never ceases to underwhelm me when someone goes to the weight issue. really? that's the best you can come up with? I think of it as the easy way out.
so, being the ballsy bitch I am, I turn around and say that I may lose a few pounds but she will always be stuck with those kids. (and then scurried off the train of course) Did I mention I had been drinking tequila before getting on the train???
So, again, parents, you're children may be sweet from time to time but that does not entitle them to a seat on the train. I didn't tell you to have them, and I won't let you tell me that it is my duty to give them my seat...do they work for my boss? and have to deal with all her s@#! I think not...

As I pondered the name of this blog and what I want to say, I wonder if the title should have included something about procrastination. I realize I am coming to this world a little late, but better late than never.
The same thing could be said about all my 'career' choices. I use that term loosely as I have floated from job to job with no idea of 'career.' I threw the gauntlet down recently by expressing my wishes to become a writer. As they said in Throw Momma from the Train, a writer writes. so here it is...part exercise to get me started, part venue for my rants, and there will be rants,  and hopefully all entertainment. (with the occasional movie quote thrown in here and there)
